Maruti Suzuki has announced that its first all-electric SUV, the eVitara, will debut in India in December 2025. The confirmation came from Maruti Suzuki’s MD and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, during the company’s H1 FY2026 financial results briefing.

The eVitara has already been showcased in the Nepalese market, giving potential buyers a preview of Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the electric vehicle segment. The launch had been delayed earlier due to battery supply and software challenges.

The eVitara will come in two battery configurations — a 49kWh pack paired with a 144hp front motor for urban driving, and a 61kWh battery delivering 174hp and a real-world range exceeding 500 km, says the company. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant will also be offered, adding a 65hp rear motor for a combined output of 184hp and 300Nm of torque.

Inside, the SUV features a digital twin-screen setup, including a 10.25-inch infotainment display and a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster. The interior is equipped with ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium Harman audio system.

Safety has also been a key focus. The eVitara’s body uses over 50% high-tensile steel, and it includes seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS, and battery protection systems. Other standard features include all-wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake (EPB), TPMS, and an emergency e-Call function.

Measuring 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,640 mm high with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, the eVitara will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta EVTata Curvv.ev, Mahindra BE 6 in the rapidly growing compact electric SUV segment.
